Where is the danger triangle of the face? – The danger triangle of the face is a triangular section of the face, which can be traced from the bridge of the nose (in-between the two eyes) to the corners of the mouth on both sides. It is also known as the “triangle of death”.
It is called danger triangle because this area has a direct connection to the network of large veins located behind the eye sockets (cavernous sinus), which drains blood from the brain. These veins are directly connected to the brain.
This therefore creates a direct connection from the skin to the brain. As a result of this, any infection from this region of the face can easily spread to the brain through this network of veins.
Pimples grow on the face, including the nose. Popping pimples in this region of the face can lead to spread of infection directly into the network of veins connecting the brain, from where the infection may spread to the brain. Infection of this region of the face, from any source, may also spread to the brain easily.
In addition to affecting the brain, this infection may initiate the process of formation of blood clots in the cavernous sinus (septic cavernous sinus thrombosis). This may lead to different life-threatening health conditions such as:
Squeezing or popping pimples or plucking nose hairs in this region of the face can result in serious health challenge, which may lead to serious complications, including death. This should therefore be avoided. In addition to this, any infection in this area of the face should be carefully treated in order to prevent such from spreading into the brain.
